چکیده

Four cases of absent left atrioventricular connection are reported. The observations from these cases have been used to emphasise problems concerning the use of the confusing terms "tricuspid" and "mitral" atresia to describe such hearts. One of the four cases represents a very uncommon condition since the rudimentary chamber was contralateral to the side of the absent emphasis given to the surgical implications of these anomalies.

Straddling right atrioventricular valves in atrioventricular discordance.

Four hearts are described in which the right atrioventricular valve, draining a morphologically right atrium, straddled and overrode a septum between a right-sided chamber of left ventricular morphology and a left-sided chamber of right ventricular morphology. The degree of override varied between the straddling valve and was committed by 20-45% to the morphologically right ventricle. The ventr...

Tricuspid atresia: analysis of coronary artery distribution and ventricular morphology.

There is still disagreement concerning the precise nature of the anterior ventricular chamber in "tricuspid atresia". Some argue that it is a right ventricle, while our own previous studies have suggested it is comparable to the outlet chamber seen in classical "single ventricle". We have compared the morphology of the anterior ventricular chambers in 48 examples of tricuspid atresia (absent ri...

Hearts with one ventricle: current concepts and management.

Nature of the problem Many congenital cardiac malformations result in a heart with only one effective ventricle. In most of these there is a second ventricle present, but it is too small to sustain cardiac output making construction of a biventricular circulation impossible. These hearts may be classified according to the atrioven-tricular connection. There are two possibilities: the atria are ...

Tricuspid atresia with double-outlet left atrium.

Clinical and pathologic findings of an unusual case of cardiac malformation are presented. The main features were those of atresia of the right atrioventricular valve associated with two distinct atrioventricular orifices connecting the morphologically left atrium to the underlying morphologically left ventricle. Other distinguishing characteristics were ostium secundum atrial septal defect, no...

Atresia of the right atrioventricular orifice.

The results are reported of a study of 83 necropsied hearts with atresia of the right atrioventricular orifice. It is emphasised that right atrial or atrioventricular orificial atresia is a better term to describe this anomaly than "tricuspid atresia". Use of the latter term can be confusing when the morphologically tricuspid valve is located beneath the left atrium. It is accepted that the def...
